Welcome to the website of Conradh na Gaeilge, Kilkenny. Founded in April,1897, Conradh na Gaeilge or the “Gaelic League” has a very proud and rich tradition of promoting the Irish language, culture, heritage and local enterprise. The founding members of the “League” created a new enthusiasm for our heritage and a pride in the past and the cultural achievements of the Irish race. In a heavily anglicised society, they helped change the focus of attention to the values of the Irish tradition.
Through this website we hope to show how the founding members and the generations that followed were a cohesive local force that brought together people of different religious persuasions, different backgrounds and from all levels of society to translate our rich heritage so that it could be understood, appreciated and shared by all.
